International Students

Corpus Christi welcomes applications from qualified international students of all cultural, religious and linguistic backgrounds.

Following is a list of general admission requirements, however applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

International Students Graduating from a BC Secondary School

Students must meet the same admission requirements as domestic students graduating from a BC Secondary School, including the English Language Standards. Please select “BC Provincial Applicant” from the menu on the left for details.

International Students Graduating from a Canadian Secondary School Outside BC


  1. Grade 12 English and three additional approved Grade 12 courses

  2. Grade 11 English

  3. Principles of Mathematics 11 or Applications of Mathematics 12 or 70% in an approved Science 11 (See Approved Science 11 Courses)

  4. Social Studies 11

  5. Grade 11 Science

International Students Graduating from a Secondary School Abroad


  1. A Secondary School Diploma awarded by a recognized institution or authority.

  2. School transcripts in any language other than English must be accompanied by a certified translation.

English Language Standards for International Students

International Students who Speak English as their First Language


  1. Graduates of a BC secondary school who have not achieved at least 80% in English 12 must enroll in ENGL 109 or demonstrate their standard of English by writing the CCC English Placement Test.

  2. Secondary school graduates from another Province or Territory or from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or another English-speaking country who have not achieved at least 80% in English 12 (or equivalent) must satisfy Corpus Christi's English Language entrance requirements by either submitting satisfactory scores from a recognized test (e.g. SAT, IELTS, MELAB, CELT) or achieving a satisfactory score on the Corpus Christi English Language Test. International Students for whom English is a Second Language

All applicants for admission to the College must demonstrate English-language proficiency by providing proof of ONE of the following:          
  • a minimum grade of  67% in English 12 or English Literature 12 or English 12 First Peoples (blended grade, based on both the course grade and the provincial exam mark); OR
     
  • completion of the last 3 years of full-time secondary education in English in Canada or in another country where the principal language of instruction is English. A minimum grade of 67% in the equivalent of English 12 is required; OR
     
  • a minimum grade of 4 on Advanced Placement (AP) English Language or Literature; OR
  • a minimum grade of A1 or A2 on the International Baccalaureate (IB) English Language A (Standard Level); OR
     
  • a minimum Essay Level score of 4 on the Language Proficiency Index (LPI) exam; OR                                                                                                                                                                      
  • a minimum score of 450 on the GED Language Arts Writing & Reading; OR
     
  • a minimum score of 550 (PBT) OR 83 (iBT) TOEFL; OR
     
  • a minimum overall band test score of 6.5 on IELTS (academic module only); OR                                                                                                                                                                  
  • a minimum placement of Grade 1 on the EIKEN Test in Practical English (for international students only); OR
     
  • a minimum overall and essay score of "60" on the Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) will be accepted as a substitution to English 12 "C"; OR
     
  • CELPIP 2; OR
     
  • proof of enrolment in a college-level writing or literature course that transfers as a college level English or a Communications or a Creative Writing course


NOTE!

Students who did not receive 80% or higher in English 12 (or its equivalent) and international students from non-English speaking countries* MUST enrol in ENGL 109 (a non-transferable course) before they can enrol in ENGL 110 (transferable, university-level English).

Students who fall into these categories may challenge placement in ENGL 109 by writing the CCC English Placement Test.  The EPT costs $50 to write and is graded on a Pass/ Fail basis.  If you do not receive a Pass, you cannot enrol in ENGL 110 until ENGL 109 has been successfully completed.

*International students from English-speaking countries must still provide proof of having attained 80% or higher in their equivalent of English 12 before they will be permitted to enrol in ENGL 110.
